If your license server is UP, then please try the following troubleshooting tips:
Check the C:\Softimage\Softimage_7.5\adlm\licenses\Autodesk.lic file. It should look like this:
SERVER <license-server> 000000000000
VENDOR adskflex port=2080
USE_SERVER
Where <license-server> is either the host name of the license server computer or the IP address. You can also try using 127.0.0.1 on the SERVER line.
If you are running on Vista In C:\Softimage\Softimage_7.5\adlm\licenses\Autodesk.lic, try replacing the computer name with the IP address of your computer.
On Vista, the reason for this problem is that IPv6 is enabled, and IPv6 causes problems with the license request from Softimage to the license server.
Autodesk released a patch on Feb 27th 2009 for this issue:
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=10976858&linkID=9240618
If you install this new version of AdLM, you should be able to use your host name in Autodesk.lic and get a license.
Make sure that Autodesk.lic has one SERVER line only.
Disable any firewalls and try to start Softimage.
If Softimage starts, then turn the firewall back on and unblock the ports 2080 and 27000-27009.
If you still cannot get Softimage to start, then please contact support with the following information:
Open a Softimage command prompt (click Start > All Programs > Autodesk > Autodesk Softimage 7.5 > Command Prompt).
In the command prompt, run these commands:
set FLEXLM_DIAGNOSTICS=3
xsi
Softimage will display some diagnostic messages at startup. These messages are saved in a flexlm.log file in %XSI_HOME%\Application\bin. Please send support the log files.
